Bradley, Waldrop receive coaching honors

Two area coaches won the Coach of the Year award in their respective classes and are up for Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year.

Curt Bradley of Braden River won the Class 7A award. Binky Waldrop, the dean of area coaches, was named the Class 6A Coach of the Year.

Bradley has guided the Pirates to a 13-0 record and a date in the state semifinals Friday at home against Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. Braden River has won playoff games against Naples Gulf Coast, Venice and Plant City to capture the first regional title in school history.

Waldrop led the Tarpons to wins in their first 12 games before losing 35-0 Friday in the Class 6A-Region 3 final at Naples High. Previously, Charlotte captured playoff wins against Seminole Osceola and Port Charlotte to reach the final.

Both are up for state Coach of the Year in voting by the media.

No area player won Player of the Year in their respective classes is not up for Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Florida.
